Student Enterprise Awards

“Enterprising Students meet Real Live “Dragon” in Trim!”

The Meath County Enterprise Board hosted the Co. Meath final of the Student Enterprise Awards in the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim on Tuesday, 5th March.  The competition is sponsored nationally by the County and City Enterprise Boards and to take part, students had to set up their own business – either manufacturing or service, had to make it work and make a profit!

One hundred and eighty five enterprising students representing forty-seven different businesses from ten  of the county’s second-level schools took part in the Enterprise Board sponsored Meath round, with the first place winners going forward to represent the Royal County at the National Final in the Croke Park on Wednesday, 17th April. Participating schools were Athboy Community School, Boyne Community School, Trim, Colaiste na hInse, Bettystown, Dunshaughlin Community College, Loreto, Navan, Ratoath College,  St. Joseph’s Secondary, Navan, St. Oliver Post Primary, Oldcastle, St. Patrick’s Classical School, Navan and St. Peter’s College, Dunboyne,

Students had to set up a display, prepare a business report and were adjudicated under headings such as innovation, market research, business performance and personal development. Adjudicators were Aisling Vaughan, AIB, Dermot Mulvihill representing the Meath CEB and Gary O’Meara, Manager of the Navan Enterprise Centre.

Students also had to do a “Pitch” about their business to a panel of “Dragons” on the day.  Real live “Dragon”, Gavin Duffy popped by to meet the students and to do MC for the Awards Ceremony!

The Meath County Enterprise Board presented special certificates of participation to all student entrepreneurs on the day and also presented trophies and cash prizes. The Board would like to congratulate all the participants for their fantastic business ideas and presentations. A huge thank you must also go to all the teachers involved.

Largo Foods very kindly sponsored crisps for all the students.  The following were the winners:
