STUDENT ENTERPRISE AWARDS ENTERPRISE DAY

KNIGHTSBROOK HOTEL, TRIM

MONDAY, 28TH September, 2009.

The Meath County Enterprise Board hosted a special Enterprise Day for students to launch  the Student Enterprise Awards competition last Monday, 28th September in the Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim. The Student Enterprise Awards (see www.studententerprise.ie) is a competition run by the County & City Enterprise Boards where second-level students set up and run their own business.

306 students and their teachers attended the event which ran from 10 am to 2 pm.  Schools present were:   Ashbourne Community School, Boyne Community School, Trim, Loreto Secondary School, Navan, Scoil Mhuire, Trim, St. Fintina’s, Longwood, St. Joseph’s Mercy, Navan,  St. Peter’s College, Dunboyne.

The aim of the day was to introduce students to the Student Enterprise Awards competition and to help them generate a viable business idea in a fun and interactive way using brain-storming and meta planning. 

Three groups of students who have enjoyed tremendous success with their businesses set up last year as part of the Student Enterprise Awards also made presentations on their enterprises. They were: 

“Bee Hive Card Creations”.

Louise Dunne, Megan Connolly, Gemma Fox and Chloe Flynn.                        

St. Fintina’s Post Primary, Longwood. (High quality, unique, luxurious handmade cards).

 “Easy Cook.”

Aisling Murphy & Barry Moran.

Boyne Community School, Trim. (Cookery book with cd aimed at students leaving home for the first time)

And

“Eric Wilkinson Sales.”

Eric Wilkinson, Dunshaughlin Community College.

Importation of I.T.  related products from China and sale via e-bay.

The Enterprise Day M.C. was Gerry Moan, “Constructive Intervention”  and two lucky students won a Wii console, together with Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort Mariokart and another game sponsored by the Meath CEB.  They were Louise Dunne, St. Fintina’s Post Primary, Longwood and Olivia Foley, Loreto, Navan.
